Day 1 - Introduction To Kitesurfing

Our IKO level 2 qualified instructors will introduce you to all aspects flying inflatable kites. The day begins with a safety briefing followed by an introduction to kite flying on land in order to gain the necessary basic kite skills before progressing to the water.

This course is designed as an introduction to traction kite flying and the basics of kite surfing. An absolute minimum of the two day course is recommended for people who plan to take up the sport seriously, i.e owning there own equipment. Please note that South Coast Kitesurfing is a dedicated kitesurfing school that does not sell or operate by the sale of kite surfing equipment.

The course includes:

  • 9.30 start at land site
  • Days briefing
  • Learning about location - site assessment
  • Wind
  • The wind window
  • Equipment explanation - rigging, transporting
  • Safety briefing - pre flight checks
  • Launching LEI kites in different conditions
  • Flying LEIs (foil/ram air kites may also be used in training)
  • Landing LEIs
  • Situational awareness
  • Lunch, debrief
  • Time to move on to the water
  • Using a harness
  • A basic introduction to wind, the weather, and tides
  • Water re-launching, aided and unaided
  • Body dragging both downwind and upwind
  • Introduction to the kitesurf board and water starting
  • End of session debrief
